Shu Uemura Mask inspired look

Happy 2012 everyone!

Some people swear by the 'eyes or lips' rule, and granted, sometimes the line between that fun bright evening look, or looking like Vicky Pollard is very thin. I wrote about Shu Uemura's 2011 holiday collection in this post, and really felt like doing a strong red and blue look myself. In the actual commercial, there's a flash of a very bright blue eyelook at 00:34 that inspired me for this look. This kind of make-up would look a lot nicer on someone with darker hair, but it was fun to make nevertheless!

MAD Minerals Aloe Veil review & comparison

I had my first taste of mineral make-up little over three months ago, when I ordered at MAD minerals. One of the powders that caught my interest was Aloe veil, a finishing powder that is fairly new in their catalog. I was really frustrated by the fact that I couldn't find any reviews or swatches, but decided to give it a go because I liked the fact that it contains aloe vera powder. Today I'm comparing it to translucent veil, another one of Mad minerals' finishing powders.

Mask - shu uemura holiday collection by Wong Kar Wai

Although my boyfriend and I mainly collect b-movies, there's tons of other movies that I like. One of my all time favorites is In the mood for love (fa yeung nin wa) by Wong kar wai. It's just a lust for the eye from beginning to end, so if you haven't seen it, do check it out!

Shu Uemura and Wong Kar Wai teamed up for a holiday collection. I am running a bit behind but I like it so much that I really want to share it with those that haven't seen it yet. Read on for more!

Urban Decay Fun Palette

My first Urban decay palette!

I actually had the opportunity to purchase the naked palette, but am not that big on nudes and figured that I would enjoy this palette much more. I think the name suits this palette very well, you can really make a lot of bright and fun and looks with it.

Read on for swatches and my opinion on this palette!

Preview

I got these in the mail yesterday, it was a birthday present to myself ;) I washed them and tried some of the brushes this morning, and it really made a world of difference! Before this I owned 3 crappy brushes and 1 mac brush, so it was about time that I invested in a proper brush set :)

I also placed an order at Shiro cosmetics a few weeks ago and I'm anxiously waiting for my package to arrive. My boyfriend is actually a pokemon master so when I read about a pokemon themed make-up collection, he wanted me to catch 'em all (LOL), but I ended up ordering 15 eyeshadows, and to his great disappointment only 4 from the super effective collection.

At the moment I hardly have time to catch up on reading all my favorite blogs, let alone make regular updates here. These's a few posts coming up on my sigma order, a new moisturizer that I'm testing, some eyeshadows and some DIY stuff.  But I'm not sure when I'll manage to update, because it's busy at work, I have my Danish exam soon and I'm also having a guest staying over for at least a few weeks. And christmas and new year and family visits..

You can always follow me on bloglovin to stay updated :)

Merry christmas to everyone!

Notd: Essie - Fair game

Well it's not exactly a 'nail of the day', more like a nail of 2 weeks ago. I am working a lot lately and have been sick, so unfortunately I didn't get around to updating my blog. Today I'm showing you a lovely polish called Fair Game!

Review: The Falsies waterproof mascara

I urgently needed a new waterproof mascara because it has been raining lately and I ride my bike to work everyday, so I picked this up from the supermarket while I was doing my grocery shopping. I hadn't even read any reviews yet, so I was anxious to try it!

Me and my red hair crush

When I was 9 we finally got cable tv and I was allowed to watch mtv, and that's how it started. I was crazy about Shirley Manson's look in the 'only happy when it rains' video. You could say that she was my first real idol, and I wanted to look just like her. Cheesy isn't it :) My mother used henna as well, so I started begging her for red hair. Since henna is natural and doesn't damage your hair, she agreed. It turned out a lovely shade of dark muted copper. Some mean kids made fun of me, but I figured that they were just stupid and had bad taste. I loved it!

Fotd: Autumn leaves

Another look I did a few days ago. I was tidying up and found a red pigment from Gosh that I had completely forgotten about, so I figured that autumn is the perfect time to use it again :)

Review: Weleda Calendula Ointment

I am not the kind of girl that whines to her boyfriend about lifting heavy stuff or assembling furniture and things like that, I just do it myself. It doesn't always go as well as I thought it would, but I can be really stubborn and love the feeling of accomplishing something on my own. I also have a job where I use my hands a lot, so they get most damage: little scratches, sore cuticles, dry skin, you name it!

Weleda states that this Calendula ointment (dutch packaging) is good for treating all sorts of skin issues like rashes and little wounds. It reinforces the skins own healing capacity and has anti-inflammatory properties. Sounds good..

Fotd: Drama queen + baked!

Here's a look I made today. I was inspired by an awesome look that Phyrra did. I switched the colors and toned it down a bit, since I wore this to work and I am the only one wearing this much make-up there. :)

I used Urban decay's Baked on the lid and Mad minerals' Drama queen in and above the crease. As a subtle highlighting shade I used UD's Sin and the eyeliner is Mac's Fluidline. The lipstick is 707 Shakin' mauve from Maybelline, and the blush is Taronga Zoo from Catrice

This was one of the first pictures with my new camera, I still need to figure out how to adjust the settings. It has this special portrait filter that smooths out your skin, but unfortunately it makes everything else blurry too.

Review: Yes to Carrots Moisturizing night cream

Finding a good affordable moisturizer can be quite a challenge if you have sensitive skin.
Last year I found one that seems to keep my skin in an acceptable state, but off course I want it to look even better, so I started looking for alternatives. On my quest for the perfect moisturizer I came across Yes To Carrots' C through the night moisturizing night cream, and put it to the test!

Eotd: Forest! + update!

A quick look I did recently with this eyeshadow trio from Isadora. I also used catrice precision eye pencil in 080 Wildthing, and urban decay's Sin on the inner corners of my eyes.

And a little update, since things have been quiet here:

My camera decided to go derp. I've had it for 7,5 years and I took an incredible amount of pictures with it, but lately more and more things went broke and I really couldn't get my pictures right anymore. It was really frustrating because I am quite a perfectionist, so today I finally bought a new camera! It will get a proper introduction as soon as I figure out how it all works :) So hopefully soon there will be no more blurry weird face-deforming pictures like the one above.

I also had a busy schedule lately, but I'm not going to bother you with all the details :)

Thanks for reading!

Catrice New York + Sinful colors Nail Junkie

I recently wore Catrice's New York polish from the big city life collection. It's a very nice dusty blue creme polish, and the quality is pretty good. I am wearing 2 coats and a topcoat in this picture, and it was taken on the second or third day, hence the slight tipwear. Because it was a bit too boring for my liking, I applied one layer of Sinful Color's Nail Junkie om my ring fingers. Instant hipness!

Isadora Forest eyeshadow trio

Along with this stunning nailpolish, I also bought a matching eyeshadow trio palette from Isadora's Forest Groove collection for autumn 2011. The Forest eyeshadow trio contains 3 colors that are perfect for making a smokey eyelook.

Isadora Forest Nailpolish

Swedish cosmetics brand Isadora has been around for quite some time, but it was only a few weeks ago that I first saw it being sold in a small store here in Belgium. I had no idea that you could find this brand around here!  I picked up some products from the Forest Groove collection for fall 2011, and today I will be showing one of the nail polishes.

Cutting your cuticles is bad, mmmkay?

Your cuticles protect you from bacteria and fungus, and they are essential for maintaining healthy nails. Pushing your cuticles back in a harsh way or cutting them may cause damage to your nails and can lead to infections. So instead of cutting them you can use a cuticle remover!

A cuticle remover is a product that is used to soften and gently remove dead skin cells on your cuticles, leaving them soft and looking flawless without using clippers.

To be honest: I have never used one. When I first heard of the existance of this kind of product, it rang a bell. I grabbed my tube of Veet hair removal cream and googled the ingredients of popular brands of cuticle removers, and guess what: they contain the same active ingredients :)

I decided to put it to the test!

Edit: I did a picture tutorial on my cuticle routine now, you can see it here!

MAC Girl About Town Lipstick

A while ago I finally got around to buy my first MAC lipstick!

18 for a lipstick is not cheap, so it really had to be a special color and good formula. I am all about bright lips, so last time I visited a mac counter I walked out with a gorgeous pink color on my lips and in my shopping bag!

Winter skincare tips

I think we all know how to protect our skin against the sun during summer, but how can we take care of our skin during winter?

In the past I never stopped to think about changing my skincare routine untill the damage was already done: my skin turns flaky and dry and I get redness and rashes.

Sounds familiar? I did some research and testing and have some tips to share with you!

Catrice Big City Life - Sidney palette

The last few limited edition collections that Catrice released were pretty disappointing, but when I first read about this one I instantly wanted to jump on my bike and ride to the store. Unfortunately I was sick that day and had no time to go shopping the days after so by the time I got to the store there were only 3 palettes and 2 nail polishes left.

I went home with the Sidney palette and New York polish, and even though I only spent €9,5, I felt as if I just acquired a rare luxurious treasure. That's marketing for you..

Quick update

As you can see I made some changes, it's just temporary. I'm not sure how I want the lay-out to look and have no clue about the colors yet either, but at least it's something I made myself :)

I went on a shopping spree in The Netherlands today and bought some make-up that has been on my wish list for ages! Reviews coming up as soon as I get the opportunity to make some swatches and test the products.

MAD Minerals Haul!

I have been hearing a lot of people rave about mineral foundation but assumed that a powder foundation would look horribly matte on my dry skin. I never really bothered to look into it until I read about it on Killercolours a few months ago. After reading many reviews I decided to place an order at http://madminerals.org/.

To my surprise my package arrived only 6 days later!

Gosh - Miss sweety

I bought this nail polish a while ago in search of a nice nude polish. I wasn't sure about the colour on my skin tone but I bought it anyway because it was in sale. Let's see what I think about it!
